Gerard Deulofeu is eager to help Watford rediscover their winning form after returning to full first-team training.

Injury has forced the winger to play a watching role this season and he is yet to appear for the Hornets since making his move from Barcelona permanent in the summer.

Having returned to fitness, Deulofeu is now targeting a first outing of the campaign as Watford look to bounce back from three Premier League games without a victory.

“I am feeling good and I want to help the team keep this position and this good start to the season,” he told the Watford website.

“Now we have lost some points against Arsenal and Manchester United, so we have to keep this position and work hard to get back to getting three points.

“I hope soon I will have some minutes, but now is the time to work and to enjoy where we are.”

After a productive start to life at Vicarage Road last season, which saw Deulofeu impress during the first four games of his loan spell, Deulofeu’s progress was halted by a stress fracture to the foot.

He managed to return before the end of the 2017/18 campaign and started the final game of the season at Manchester United, but missed the entirety of pre-season before suffering a hip problem.

The 24-year-old admits missing out on Watford’s flying start to the season, which saw them win their first five games in all competitions, has been testing.

Being absent from the action has only added to the former Everton man’s desire to be involved once more and he is striving to return soon.

“It is a little bit frustrating because the team is doing well and I want to be there with my teammates,” he said.

“I am close to being back on the pitch and I am so happy to train with my teammates because I miss being on the pitch and playing games too much.”

Deulofeu has returned to a first team set-up in good spirits in spite of Watford suffering their first minor blip of the campaign.

Head coach Javi Gracia played an important role in bringing Deulofeu to the club in the summer and his positivity is central to the high morale in the Watford camp.

The Spanish boss has been quick to stress the importance of the Hornets keeping their work rate up regardless of results and Deulofeu is enjoying working with his compatriot.

“The atmosphere is always good when you win and when you have a good position in the table, all is good, and all is smiles,” he said.

“The manager is the first to say we have to keep working hard because the Premier League is a tough league, and it is long and we have to keep working because it is just the start.

“He has clear ideas and he transmits them to his players very well and all the players are happy with him – also he is a good person.”
