Watford are reportedly eyeing up a January move for AC Milan defender Mateo Musacchio.

But the Hornets could face competition for the centre-back’s signature, with Fulham also keeping tabs on the Argentine, according to reports in Italy.

Musacchio moved to Italy from Villareal last summer but was limited to just 20 appearances in all competitions last season, as AC Milan earnt a sixth place finish in Serie A.

However, he has featured more regularly for Gennaro Gattuso’s side this campaign, starting their last seven league games.

Reports in Italy claim that the Hornets have been watching Musacchio since his time at Villarreal, where he made over 200 appearances in all competitions during an eight year spell in La Liga.

Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele have been Watford’s regular centre-back pairing during the opening weeks of the season, with the duo starting all of the club’s Premier League games so far.

However, that will have to change against Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break following Kabasele’s dismissal against Bournemouth.

Cathcart and Kabasele have been impressive during the early weeks of the season, but Musacchio’s arrival would add further competition for places in Watford’s backline, as the Golden Boys look to continue their promising start to the campaign under head coach Javi Gracia.
