The referee who was deemed to have incorrectly sent off Christian Kabasele in Watford’s Carabao Cup exit to Tottenham Hotspur has been in charge of Saturday’s trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Hornets were leading 1-0 when Lee Mason ruled the Belgian international, who had only been on the pitch for four minutes as a substitute, should see red for his foul on Dele Alli in the penalty area.

The England star converted the spot-kick and Spurs went on to win 4-2 on penalties after the third round tie had ended 2-2, but the Hornets lodged an appeal against the dismissal after the game. This was upheld and Kabasele’s red card was rescinded.

The defender is unavailable for selection at Molineux though, after being sent off in the 4-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, and Jose Holebas will also miss the game after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season last time out.

Kabasele is the only player Mason has shown a red card too this season, with the official dishing out a total of 20 yellows in the seven other games he has been in charge of to date.
