Troy Deeney heads a formidable team of Watford captains in the latest Tales from the Vicarage book - which has been released today.

The current skipper speaks openly about the highs and lows of his time at Vicarage Road, including how he signed for the club in a petrol station and how he holds no regrets about his infamous ‘cojones’ dig at Arsenal. Deeney is joined by ten other players who have lead the Hornets into battle in the seventh volume of the popular series – entitled ‘Captains’.

The new book, written by journalist and lifelong Watford fan Mike Walters, includes chapters with players that wore the armband over the last fifty years – starting with Keith Eddy back in the 1960’s right up to the present day with the Deeney.

Other former leaders that feature with exclusive interviews are Dennis Booth, Neil Cox, John Eustace, Andy Hessenthaler, Gavin Mahon, Robert Page, Pat Rice, Wilf Rostron and Les Taylor.

From the FA Cup final to the notorious 'ghost' goal, from Hartlepool to Europe, the line-up have made more than 2,500 appearances for the Hornets between them.

Within the book you’ll find out which captain gave first aid to 'injured' tiddlywinks, which one took over penalty-taking duties from Brazilian legend Pele... and which one sat down to Christmas dinner with the Sheriff of Nottingham and much more.

The book, which is available to purchase today here, is being launched with a live event at Watford Palace Theatre on Sunday night with four former captains – Booth, Eustace, Mahon and Page – joining host Adam Leventhal on stage for another sell out night of Hornets nostalgia and laughter.
