Jerome Sinclair and Randell Williams were both able to take positives from Sunderland’s meeting with Wycombe Wanderers which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Chairboys looked set to be the first side to take all three points from the Stadium of Light this season when they took the lead through Fred Odyedinma’s 67th minute effort.

However, with just six minutes left on the clock Josh Maja notched his 11th goal of the season to ensure the spoils were shared on Wearside.

Both Sinclair and Williams were given the task of leading the line for their sides as they started the game and completed 54 and 73 minutes respectively.

Wycombe and Williams will look to build on the positive away point when they take on Shrewsbury at Adams Park on Saturday, while Sinclair’s Sunderland continue their League One promotion push at Walsall.

Alex Jakubiak had to make do with far less game time as he came on in the 85th minute of Bristol Rovers’ 2-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe United.

The forward’s introduction came as Rovers searched for a route back into the game after Lee Novak and Matt Lund had struck for United either side of Liam Sercombe’s effort.

Saturday’s defeat leaves Bristol Rovers 21st in the League One table and well and truly involved in the battle to avoid the drop.

They face Barnet in an FA Cup first round replay later today before returning to league action on the road at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
