Herts Sunday Senior Cup Round Three

The Watford Sunday League will have three out of the eight clubs in the quarter-finals after excellent wins for Oakview, Rifle Volunteer and Reed Rangers. Rifle and Oakview will now face each other for a place in the semi-finals in January.

For the second round running Oakview put out Berkhamsted Sunday League opponents, this time it was champions and last season’s Senior Cup runners-up Flaunden 3-1.

Chris Blunden opened the scoring after just five minutes, racing clear following a Tom Inch pass and curling the ball into the top corner.

Lewis Putman made it two after 34 minutes after beating the centre half and whipping a shot into the bottom corner.

Oakview dominated the second half and would have added more goals to their tally were it not for the Flaunden goalkeeper. But Luke Beardsworth made the game safe 15 minutes from time when he volleyed home, before Flaunden netted a consolation.

Quarter-final opponents Rifle enjoyed a 4-0 win over Maccabi London Lions.

Gary Froy gave Volnuteer the lead just before the break, finishing smartly at the back post, but it was to be one-way traffic after the break.

Elliott Wilson headed home the second goal, Chris Killer fired home a rebound for the third and the scoring was completed by Sean Donnely.

Reed were even more convincing victors, beating Hilltop 6-1.

They went ahead after just eight minutes, Louis Bircham picking up the ball outside the area and dribbling his way through to lay off a pass for Nick Kerley to calmly tuck away.

Rangers soon doubled their lead when Bircham hammered home a George Hobson cross.

Hilltop managed to pull one back six minutes later, but Bircham was to add his second of the game following a solo run and neat finish.

The second half saw Bircham turn provider for Kerley, who then completed his hat-trick a minute later thanks to a John Smith assist.

The result was rounded off in the final minute when Andrew Brennan slotted home for Reed, who will be at home to Percival in their quarter-final.

West Herts where the only Watford Sunday League side to be knocked out, going down 5-2 at Allenburys.

They went into the game full of confidence after a run of good results only to have their hopes dashed after just five minutes when keeper Shane Price suffered a broken ankle when he landed awkwardly catching a cross and the loose ball was tapped into an empty net.

Midfielder Khodi Cane took over between the sticks but 10 minutes later the home side doubled the lead.

Sunnie Ighorae headed the Stags back into the tie before Allenburys scored twice more in the second half.

Toki Odugbesan netted West Herts’ second goal but Allenburys added a fifth with 10 minutes left.

Bushey Sports Club scored three times, but still finished on the losing side as they went down 5-3 to Infernos Elite. Tom MacGuiness scored twice and Dale Jenkins netted the other.

The all-Division One tie saw FC Unicorn carry on their good start to the season with a 4-1 win over Cassiobury Rangers.

Danny Warwick gave Unicorn the lead from the penalty spot in only the second minute, but their opponents levelled through Joe Mortimer.

Unicorn regained the lead after the break when Jamie Calvin’s cross was fumbled by the keeper and Alfie Devane was on hand to nip in front of the stopper and tuck the ball into the net.

A third followed on the counter-attack as Sheldon Berkeley scored from 10 yards, and player-manager Calvin completed his side’s victory win 10 minutes from time by heading home a Luke Peerless free-kick.

Holders Ripstone enjoyed a comfortable 8-1 home win over Northwood.

Tom Courtney and Matt Elgey both netted braces with Joe Hardie, Dan Saunders, Tim Wilson and Rob Benson scoring the others. Craig Mathieson got Northwood’s consolation.

A strike from Charlie Salvage was enough for Ardent to beat The Tree, but it rained goals in the tie between Bushey Rangers and North Watford, with the visitors winning 10-5.

Carlos Alberto got half of Watford’s goals, Aamer Khan added four more and Ajmel Ahmed struck the other. Tyler Conner scored a hat-trick for Bushey with George Davies netting the other two.

Ross Bennett gave Old Danes the lead before Ryan McMahon equalised with a penalty.

Scott Volker restored the advantage just before the break and Josh Burks completed the win late in the second half.

Evergreen enjoyed a 2-0 home win over St Josephs, with both goals coming in the second half.

First Joss Dunham headed home a Jamie Robertson corner, and then Lewis Goodyear finished off a flowing move from the edge of the area to seal the three points.

Fox & Hounds let a two-goal lead slip as Old Fullerians battled back for a 2-2 draw.

Goals from Ciaran Walsh and Alex Witham had put Fox in the ascendency, but Fullers secured a point thanks to a free-kick from Dan Woosley and a late equaliser from Charlie Hailey.

Division Three

Oxhey Rangers gained a first league win of the season in dramatic fashion as they beat Chess United 10-3 away from home.

Jack Honey’s hat-trick for the home side was nowhere near enough as Dan Pippin and Khizer Bhandjar scored trebles of their own for Oxhey, with Rhys Phelps adding two and Ollie Edwards and Robert Duncan getting a goal each.

Batchworth slipped to the bottom of the table after a 3-2 home defeat to an Inter team that also achieved a first win of the campaign.

Michael Bright scored twice for the home side with Chris Stead matching him for Inter, but it was Dayo Akinlabi who netted the all-important third for Inter.

Division Four

A Will Keddy-inspired RBL Croxley fought back from 3-0 down to beat Sun Postal Sports 4-3.

The home side had built up what looked an unassailable lead early in the second half thanks to goals from Graham Melsome, Hamid Ali and an own goal.

But the fightback began when Keddy scored following a goalmouth scramble and he then got his second with a strike from the edge of the box.

Straight from the restart, great link-up play between Keddy and substitute Ollie Donohoe led to the latter getting brought down in the box and Keddy dispatched the penalty to complete his hat-trick for the equaliser.

But RBL were not done there and when the Sun keeper brought down Keddy for a second penalty, he handed responsibility to Callum Hearn who scored from the spot to complete the comeback.

Leaders SOCA could only draw 1-1 at home with Skyline; Dylan Stewart scoring the equaliser for the visitors with a well-taken free-kick after Michael Coffee had given SOCA the lead.

Nathan Pooley scored four, Chris Dunn two and Luke Potchetty, Adam Riccitelli and Ben Kelly got a goal each. Dan Mason struck a double for Harriers.
