Fullerians ended their wait for a win this season as they claimed a 39-19 victory over fellow London One North strugglers Diss.

The bonus-point success saw Fullers end a nine-game losing run from the start of the campaign, much to the delight of head coach Rich Hoskins.

However, he still felt his side could have done more during the match and is eager for Fullers to kick on in what is expected to be a testing period in the coming weeks.

“We deserved to win this match and played some very good high intensity rugby. We forced the offload when we didn’t need to and could have won by more,” Hoskins said of the much-needed success.

“We have some big games coming up between now and and the end of December so we will build again for out next game at home against Sudbury.”

Fullers impressed from the outset and were soon ahead after a Dan Evans penalty and Owen Scully try, which Evans added the conversion to, gave them early momentum.

A poor restart allowed Diss to hit straight back as they won a penalty, kicked for the corner and eventually drove over from the line-out for a converted try.

Evans would kick another penalty to ensure Fullers led 13-12 at the break despite Diss adding a further try before the interval.

Fullers looked to be in danger of letting a precious winning position slip when Diss started the second half by running the length of the pitch to lead for the first time.

However, a youthful Fullers side held their nerve and were back in the lead when a well-worked move ended with Mike Kerr going over.

From then on it was one-way traffic and tries from George Harvey (2) and Ben Matchett secured a comfortable winning margin.

Tabard continued the winning theme as they picked up a 31-23 victory over Royston - a success which owed much to the individual efforts of flanker Edward Gough.

He impressed throughout and was able to cap a performance full of defensive grit with a brace of tries.

Gough was by no means alone in helping to secure Tabard victory and the tone was set early on by Jack Reilly, who converted his own try and also added the extras for Ben Chandler’s score in the corner.

The victory leaves Tabard sixth in London Three North West, two points adrift of Old Merchant Taylors’ ahead of a game against title candidates Stevenage Town tomorrow.
