Tottenham Hotspur have revealed their first home game of 2019 will be played at Wembley Stadium, but are yet to confirm whether Watford will travel to the venue at the end of January.

Further testing at Spurs’ new ground means they will be forced to play Manchester United at the national stadium on Sunday, January 13.

Watford are the only other club due to take on Mauricio Pochettino’s men on the road in January, travelling to London on the 30th, but as yet no venue had been set for the game.

Watford could, therefore, be the first side to take on Tottenham at their new ground in the Premier League meeting which kicks off at 8pm.

However, the issues which have plagued the construction of the stadium mean it is impossible to rule out further setbacks in the building process.

A club statement said contractors will work throughout Christmas to ensure the club’s new ground passes tests which will allow a stadium safety certificate to be granted.

Once this has been attained, Spurs will be able to carry out test events and move towards finally being able to play in their new stadium.

The North London club will make a further announcement on their stadium plans during the week commencing Monday, January 7.
