Hello everyone, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and you’re looking forward to a happy and healthy 2019.

We have had a bit of a break with our Watford FC Ladies fixtures in recent weeks, partly due to the Christmas period but also due to poor weather conditions.

It means that we’ve only played one game since the 1-0 victory over Chichester City Ladies and that was in the SSE Women’s FA Cup against Buckland Athletic. Even that was only played at the second attempt as the first game was rained off.

Thankfully, we got the game played early in December and booked our place in round three with a 1-0 win. It wasn’t an easy game although we did have a lot of possession, we couldn’t quite turn that in to clear cut chances. We did get a winner, though, with about 20 minutes to go through Leggy (Katie O’Leary) and I think it was a well-deserved victory in the end.

We will be heading up to Middlesbrough in January for the next round which will not only present us with an opportunity to progress into the next round but also to have a weekend with the team and continue to build on what is already a good team spirit. We will have an overnight stay so that we can get the long journey out of our legs the day before we play and hopefully give ourselves the best chance of coming through the tie with a positive result.

It’s been frustrating not to have played consistently for so long, but it has given us a chance to work on fitness as well as tactical and technical areas of our game. It has also given our coaches the time to work with individual players and small groups which is difficult when you have games once or twice a week. As a forward, that has been really enjoyable as four or five of us have had lots of repetition in front of goal and time to work on a variety of finishes in and around the box. Hopefully we will see that work come to fruition in the New Year.

We don’t have another home game until January 27th when we take on Oxford United Women at Kings Langley FC in a 3pm kick off. If you find yourself at a loose end after the madness of the festive period, how about you come along to support as we look to continue in our bid for promotion?
