Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo wants to return to the Premier League after being relegated in China.

The Nigerian was a fan favourite during his time at Vicarage Road, scoring 39 goals in 99 appearances after joining from Udinese in 2014.

He was then sold in 2017 for around £20 million to Chinese side Changchun Yatai, where he has scored 36 times in 55 appearances in all competitions.

Yatai were relegated at the end of the last Chinese Super League season and now the 29-year-old has told Sky Sports he is eyeing up a return to England.

The broadcaster tweeted: "Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo has told Sky Sports News he wants to return to the Premier League this month."

Reports earlier in the transfer window had linked Ighalo with a move to Southampton.

The Saints have agreed a deal to sell Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini to Sampdoria and it is thought they could be interested in the Nigerian as a replacement.
