The referee for Watford's home game against Burnley this Saturday will be Michael Oliver, it has been confirmed.

The game will be the first Hornets' match Oliver has taken charge of this season, with his last appearance coming in April when he oversaw Watford's 2-0 defeat away at Spurs.

Oliver was officiating in last season's 4-1 home defeat against Huddersfield, in which he sent off both Troy Deeney for Watford and Jonathan Hogg for the Terriers.

Out of the four Watford games Oliver was in charge of last season, the Hornets only managed to pick up one point, which came in the 2-2 draw away at West Bromwich Albion.

He was also referee when Watford were beaten 1-0 at home by Stoke City.

The season before, the Hornets did not fare much better in games in which Oliver was in charge, losing 6-1 away at Liverpool and 4-1 away at Tottenham.

In fact, the last time Watford won a game in which Oliver was refereeing was, coincidentally, at home against Burnley in the Premier League in February 2017, when the Hornets ran out 2-1 winners.

Oliver also oversaw the 3-1 victory against Manchester United in that same season.
