MATT JACKSON will spend the next month on loan at Championship rivals Blackpool after Aidy Boothroyd allowed the veteran defender to join the Seasiders.

Jackson has featured just twice for the Hornets since joining from Wigan Athletic on a two-year deal, playing in the Carling Cup games against Gillingham and Southend United.

The former Birmingham and Everton defender, who turns 36 later this month, was initially signed by Boothroyd to provide some experience at the heart of the defence and was set to replace Malky MacKay as the manager's lieutenant on the field. But his lack of mobility and pace was exposed in pre-season, particularly against MK Dons, and he has not featured on the bench in any of the Championship games this season.

In Adrian Mariappa and player-coach MacKay, Boothroyd has enough central-defensive cover for his first-choice pairing of Dan Shittu and Jay DeMerit.

Jackson went straight into the Blackpool side to face Plymouth on Saturday and helped the Seasiders keep a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw.

Will Hoskins (Millwall), Cedric Avinel (Stafford Rangers), Theo Robinson and Toumani Diagouraga (both Hereford) are also out on loan.
