Herts Sunday Junior Cup Quarter-Final

Third Division AFC Leavesden won the all-Watford Sunday League tie, edging past Fourth Division The Victoria 2-1 to set up a semi-final against East Herts League-based AFC Goffs Athletic who put out Oxhey Athletic the previous week.

It was a game decided in part by two penalties, one converted and one saved.

Tom Bourke tapped home from a rebound after his first effort was saved by The Victoria keeper to give Leavesden an early lead. Then just minutes later Leavesden keeper Luke Freeman saved a Victoria penalty.

Leavesden doubled their lead halfway through the second period when Callum Galvin tucked away a Mike Porter through ball.

Freeman did superbly in the second half to keep Victoria at bay, but he was unable to stop Dan Bourne‘s deflected effort late on to set up a nervous last few minutes.

Leavesden held on though, to leave them just 90 minutes away from a County Cup final in their first season.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Quarter-Final

Last season’s Herts Junior Cup winners Everett Rovers are through to the last four of this season’s Intermediate Cup as they look to make it back-to-back County Cup triumphs after overcoming a strong performance from Ardent, 2-0, in another all-WSL affair.

Both sides created numerous chances in the first half with Everett goaleeper Ryan Peach in good form. But the stalemate was broken five minutes before the break when Joe Brown headed in a Luke Preedy corner at the far post.

The second half saw Ardent create several good chances, including an effort that crashed off the bar and bounced clear, and they were left to rue these when Jake Knight fired home after being put through by Rob Barham.

It was a good morning for Reed with nearest rivals for the last semi-final place, Rifle Volunteer, suffering a 5-2 defeat against Evergreen.

Evergreen started strongly and were awarded two penalties in the first half, the first despatched by Ben Adams and the second by Matt Smart, who added another goal before half-time.

Rifle came out strongly at the start of the second period and pulled two goals back through Hugh Trayte, including a penalty, but their opponents regained control and scored twice more thanks to Adams and Ben Phillips.

WSL Intermediate Cup Quarter-Final

It was action all the way as First Division FC Unicorn finally got past Second Division Bushey Rangers 5-4 after 120 minutes of cup football.

Rangers took an early through James Henney, but Unicorn levelled when Charlie Benning’s through ball found Jamie Calvin who rounded the keeper and converted from a tight angle to make it 1-1 at the break.

Henney scored his second from a goalmouth scramble after the break, but after Luke Peerless levelled from a corner Unicorn took the lead for the first time through Callum O’Connor.

With time running out though, Bushey ensured another 30 minutes would be needed when Tyler Connor rifled home the edge of the area.

Bushey started the stronger in extra-time and went ahead for a third time when Gary Yervey headed home a corner, only for Unicorn to strike back almost immediately through Danny Warwick after play was kept alive following a corner.

The second period of extra-time saw Unicorn on top and they made it count with minutes left when Calvin set O’Connor free before crossing for Warwick to convert.

First Division sides FC Woodside and Croxley both overcame lower division opposition after two contrasting ties.

Woodside needed extra-time before defeating Fourth Division SOCA 5-3.

Nathan Gullin opened the scoring with a half-volley before Michael Griffin saw his delivery across the box helped in by a SOCA defender.

Despite going 2-0 down to higher division opponents, SOCA struck back with two goals before the break from James Hardwick and Bradley Bridges.

Things went from bad to worse for Woodside when SOCA went ahead for the first time through an own goal and they then saw Griffin sent off for a second yellow card.

With four minutes remaining, Woodside gambled and sent on veteran Glen Coniam up front and he helped set up the equaliser when his header from a corner struck the crossbar and Joe Fox scrambled the rebound over the line.

Despite being a player down, Woodside completed the comeback in extra-time thanks to a goal in each half from Nathan Gullin to complete his hat-trick with a penalty and a solo effort.

It was far more straightforward for Croxley as they saw off Third Division strugglers Batchworth 10-1, with Luke Dolan and Conor Flanagan grabbing hat-tricks and a brace from Carl Pettitt. But the best was left to the end with Thomas Hughes and Mark Penny firing home from distance.

Michael Bright scored the Batchworth goal with a late penalty.

The visitors replied with two further goals from Mitchell Tearle before Sunnie Ighorae got West Herts’ second just before half-time.

That goal helped changed the game and soon after the restart Joes’ advantage was down to one goal thanks to Audic’s second and one from Kevin Adewunmi.

Hugo Figerido netted a sixth for St Josephs before Adewunmi doubled his tally three minutes from time.

Jack Henley set up Mortimer’s second after the resumption, Rod Ladmore equalised with a late volley before Rangers snatched the points with the last kick of the game thanks to Aidan Lesslie.

Langleybury CC and AFC Bedmond shared the points after a 3-3 draw.

Bedmond led twice but their opponents hit back on both occasions, before Connor Sills’ second of the game looked to have secured the points after Jamie Madden had scored his side’s first goal.
