If Watford can replicate the quality of the performance they demonstrated at Old Trafford - and capitalise on their opportunities - they will start picking up points at the so-called 'big six' clubs.

The Hornets came up just short yesterday as Manchester United scraped to a 2-1 win after 90 minutes in which the visitors were the better side to the extent of dominating their opponents for significant parts of the contest. The difference, as Javi Gracia acknowledged, was in the details.

Not enough of the visitors' attractive and effective build-up play was translated into clear openings, whereas United snatched the points due to a quality counter-attacking goal from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial's second that looked suspiciously offside.

A goal was the least the Hornets deserved though, and when it did arrive in the last minute of normal time it had more than a touch of class about it - Abdoulaye Doucuoure running through the United backline to finish off a lovely move he had started with a give-and-go with Isaac Success, aided by an intelligent Troy Deeney dummy.
