A frantic final 10 minutes earned Fullerians a bonus point as they overcame Ruislip in London 1 North, beating them 27-15.

Dan Evans, Liam Mann, Ben Matchett and Jack Longbottom got the all-important tries for the hosts as they looked to close the gap on their opponents in the table.

Evans put Fullers ahead almost immediately with a penalty, but this was nullified straight away as Ruislip converted a penalty of their own.

Fullers restored the lead with a penalty try soon after as the scrum began to turn up the pressure on the visitors, but Ruislip again responded well and a try from out wide had the score at 10-8.

The home side came back once more as Simon Lye picked up and fed to scrum half Matchett, and he executed a brilliant one-two to allow Mann to score in the corner, with Evans adding the conversion.

With the score at 17-8 at the beginning of the second half, the visitors began to take control but they lacked any conviction in the final third, seeing numerous chances break down, despite managing one try to edge the scores back to 17-15 with 10 minutes to go.

Immediately though, Fullers put Ruislip under enormous pressure and pinned them back inside their own 22, which won them a penalty that was kicked for the corner.

Although they were stopped agonisingly short of the line, Matchett displayed brilliant footwork to escape the covering defence and go over.

From the restart, Krisitian Williams drove his side forward and laid off for Dom Toon, whose superb pass found Longbottom to seal the bonus point with the game’s last try.

Fullers’ penultimate game of the season comes this Saturday when they travel to second-placed Colchester.

Tabard were also on the right side of a victory in London 3 North West, beating second-bottom Finchley 37-24 at home.

Captain Jack Reilly successfully converted three tries and two penalties, while Johnny Anguila went over twice along with single tries for Charles Sandison, Aaron Priscott and Tom King.

With only two minutes gone, Anguila showed his pace to beat off the defence and go over, with Reilly coolly converting and Sandison went over soon after, but with no conversion this time.

Tabard took their foot off the gas momentarily which allowed Finchley to reply with an unconverted try, but Reilly’s penalty and conversion from another Anguila try reaffirmed their lead, and Priscott confirmed their bonus point with another try.

The hosts went to sleep again, allowing Finchley another unconverted score, and they soon went over again, this time with a successful conversion, to make it 27-17.

Reilly stepped up again though to convert from Tom King’s try, and even though the visitors managed another seven-point score, Reilly added a penalty at the end to finish it off at 37-24.

Next week sees Tabard play their final game of the season as they make the short trip to Old Merchant Taylors.
