Abbots Langley won the Watford Observer Fourteen14 knockout Shield for the first time in their history last year. Can they defend their title or who will succeed them? The search for the 2019 champions starts today.

The competition has long been established as the premier limited overs event in the area and Abbots won the 50th staging of the event by ending neighbours Kings Langley's reign as champions.

Only two of the teams who enter will have the opportunity to battle it out for the main prize, but silverware is also up for grabs in the Plate, which Watford Grammar School for Boys won for the fourth time last summer. As in the previous 15 years since its inception, eight teams will participate in this competition, which will run parallel to the latter stages of the Shield.

The competition rules are largely unchanged from last year, but clubs are reminded it is a competition requirement to hace a scorer for every match they play in the competitions.

The cost of entering remains unchanged at £45 per team and the deadline for entries is Friday, April 26. This will not be extended.

The key competition dates and venues for the semi-finals and finals of the Shield and Plate will be publicised as soon as possible.
