Watford Sunday League Second Division runners-up The Tree finally have a cup final victory after a comprehensive 8-0 victory over Fourth Division RBL Croxley in the Invitation Cup final.

Having suffered defeats in both the Junior and Challenge Cup finals in the past two seasons, The Tree were simply too good for their lower ranked opponents, whose achievement in reaching the final should not be overlooked in a first season which has seen them record only three league wins.

From the start, The Tree had more of the ball and the excellent Harry Rush had a shot saved at point-blank range by Calum Price, who had an excellent performance in the RBL goal despite the one-sided end score line.

After a sustained period of pressure, it was Rush who opened the scoring after fifteen minutes, finishing smartly low into the far corner after an interchange with Nathan Davis.

Two minutes later, Triantafilos Skapetis started what seemed like a personal duel with Price when he saw his header well saved by the keeper.

RBL worked hard to try and close down The Tree, and even went close to an equaliser after 24 minutes when, on a swift breakaway, Costa Evangelides fired narrowly wide after good work from his captain Will Keddy.

That was as good as it got for them and, four minutes later, Harry Rush got his second with a superb flick and volley into the top right-hand corner from some 25 yards out, giving Price no chance.

The keeper again continued to deny Skapetis and Rush with another three superb saves, before Nathan Davis scored twice in a three-minute spell. In the 41st minute he finished simply in the box from six yards and then scrambled the ball over the line from right by the left-hand post.

RBL continued to work hard in the second half and took The Tree until midway through the period to get a fifth goal and finally a goal for Skapetis.

A minute later, Rush completed his hat-trick, tapping home after Price flicked the ball up on the edge of his own area right into his path.

The Tree added two further goals in the final minutes, Skapetis notching his second with a simple tap-in and, a minute into added time, Nathan Davis joined Rush on a hat-trick when he waltzed through a tired RBL defence to slot home to complete the victory.

The destiny of the Premier Division is now a clear shoot-out between Oakview and Reed Rangers after results in the past week made the picture just a little clearer.

On Sunday, Oakview got maximum points from the double header with Old Fullerians, winning 7-1 and 2-1. Adam Lowton hit a double along with goals for Lewis Putman, Tom Kennedy, Daryl Brown, Owen Deamer and Tom Inch in the first game, with Charlie Hailey replying for Fullerians.

The second game was a closer affair, with Putman scoring twice and Chris Munroe with the Fullerians goal.

On Wednesday night they gained a further three points with the awarding of their game against bottom placed West Herts, who couldn’t raise a team.

Reed Rangers remain close on Oakview’s tail, picking up twelve points in the past week despite only playing once; a 5-1 win over Old Fullerians last Wednesday evening.

The double-header against Chorleywood Club was awarded due to their opponents being unable to field a team and then, on Wednesday evening, St Joseph’s also failed to raise a team as well.

Reed are eleven points behind Oakview with three games in hand and have a second game to play against their fellow contenders.

Rifle Volunteer dropped out of contention in the past week after they could only draw 2-2 with St Joseph’s last Wednesday, although they did win both games of the double header with West Herts on Sunday, 2-0 and 4-1.

Gary Froy and Harry Blagden hit the goals in the first game with Froy, Hugh Trayte, Matteo Lordini and Lewis Koch netting in the return game; Sunnie Ighorae scoring the West Herts reply.

Any outside hopes of the title where ended on Wednesday evening with a 3-1 home defeat to Evergreen. Kyle Rimmer scored a brace and there was also one from Tom Verbena, with Trayte scoring the Rifle goal.

FC Unicorn are on the brink of the First Division Championship, requiring a win from their final game against Bushey Sports Club next Wednesday to take the title.

On Sunday they drew with fellow contenders and already promoted Tudor Arms in a 5-5 thriller - Danny Warrick scored twice along with Jamie Calvin, Jamie Dixon and Callum O'Connor for the Unicorn goals, while Sam Clark and Gary Coyle both netted a double and one from Tom Herbert for Tudor.

On Wednesday evening, Unicorn put nine goals past North Watford as Danny Warwick again scored twice along with Luke Peerless, Callum O'Connor, Jamie Calvin, Matt Owens, Sheldon Berkeley and George Kus also on the score sheet.

At the bottom of the table, Croxley gave themselves a real chance of staying in the division after taking four points from the double header with fellow strugglers Bushey Sports Club.

The first game ended in a 1-1 draw as Tom McGuiness and Luke Dolan got the goals.

The return game saw Croxley take the vital win 3-2 thanks to goals from Leigh Parr, Paul Nanson, and Samba, with Joe Da Silva replying twice for Bushey.

Just two points separate the bottom three clubs, Croxley, North Watford and Bushey Sports Club.

The destiny of the Division Three title remains in AFC Leavesden’s hands after they beat Inter 3-0 through goals from Kyle Clifford, Conor Peters, and Alieu Gibril. They will be crowned if they win their final two games against Batchworth and Chess United.

Oxhey Athletic remain in third place after a thumping 6-1 win in the local derby against Oxhey Rangers - Liam Hanley with two and one each for Jay Jarvis, Luke Foot, George Mole and Aidan Maguire. Michael Gilman hit the Rangers reply.

Athletic face leaders Woodlands United on Sunday with the game likely to decide runners-up if AFC Leavesden win their final two games.

ACS Milan beat NW 2-0 through goals from Spencer Coccomazzi and Ives Luhasu and moved up to fourth place in the table.

Hews clinched promotion and runners-up in Division Four with a 5-2 win over champions The Victoria, thus preventing them from winning every league game.

Stephen Noonan scored twice while Chris Dunn, Ben Kelly, Alex Willerton hit the other goals. James Farrell and Jonny Lappert replied for The Victoria.
