Ben Foster wants Watford to push themselves to win what he has described as “three cup finals” to see the club competing in European competition once again.

Foster has been one of the Hornets’ most consistent players during the current campaign and has regularly produced performances that have earned him praise and his team points.

Now the former Manchester United man wants to see Watford finish the impressive job they have already started this season.

“First and foremost for us to be in this position in the first place is a massive achievement,” he said.

“It’s a nice feeling to know that what we’ve done so far has been really good, we need to do this last little bit as well now.

“We know we’ve got three huge games, it’s almost like we’ve got three cup finals before our cup final.

“We know if we can win two of them we’ve got a very good chance of finishing seventh, but it’s three games and we want to get as many points as we can.

“That’s what we’ll focus on first, we’ll focus on the league, each single game, then when it’s finally time for the FA Cup we’ll start to settle on that.”

Foster admits that when he joined the club at the start of the season, he did not think the club would be achieving as much as it has already.

However, he now believes that the players fear no other team and are starting to realise just how good they are.

He said: “I can’t say that I thought we’d be punching this much really. I don’t think punching’s the word, but we’re trying to get seventh and an FA Cup final.

“Don’t get me wrong, I saw the squad and I knew we had a lot of ability and I knew we wouldn’t struggle but as the season’s wore on we’ve got really acclimatised to what we are as a team and what ability we’ve got.

“We approach every game exactly the same. We don’t hold any fear for any team we come up against and I think the belief has started to sink in a bit now.

“We know that we’re a very good team and we can cause any team trouble.”

Following a red card against Arsenal last week, the Hornets have been without captain Troy Deeney, but Foster has said that the team are confident in their ability to perform, even with key figures missing.

Furthermore, he thinks the chance for players to feature in a cup final is helping the team achieve even more.

He said: “We know we’ve got absolute quality. Andre Gray, in all fairness to him, has scored us some massive goals this season and he’s had to play a bit more of a supportive role coming off the bench.

“We know if he’s coming on in the 70th minute, the opposition will be thinking “here we go” because he’s got so much pace, so much power and he’s just been getting on the end of some really important balls and putting the ball in the back of the net for us.

“You look throughout the squad at the likes of Gerard Deulofeu who is a match-winner. He can turn a game on its head in a second, if you give him a bit of space to run in he’s going to twist you inside and out.

“We know we’ve got goals throughout the squad, Capoue will chip in with goals, Doucoure will chip in with goals, Maxi Pereyra will score you goals, it’s nice to have a lot of options, we haven’t got to just rely on Troy.

“We’re lucky in the fact that we have got an FA Cup final.

“It keeps everybody training at full tilt and keeps everybody pushing each other.”
