A North Watford swimmer continued his excellent progress in the pool after competing at the British Championships in Glasgow last week.

Ollie Taverner, who turned 18 this week, set two personal best times and made two finals, including qualifying for the Mens Open 50m Breaststroke A final alongside Great Britain’s Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty having set a personal best time of 28.34 during the heats earlier in the day.

Taverner, who is part of the Mount Kelly Swimming team in Tavistock, Devon, was competing is his first ever British Championships A final having been the fastest junior during the heats.

Earlier in the week, Taverner also finished fifth in the 100m breaststroke Junior Final having set a personal best of 1:03.96 in the heats, which saw him seeded first.

In an extremely close final, all swimmers came in at 1.04, with just a few hundredths of a second separating all the competitors.

Furthermore, he set a season’s best time for the 200m breaststroke in his final event of the championships to round off a highly successful week.
