Oakview clinched a sixth straight Watford Sunday League title and a 16th overall after beating Evergreen 4-0 in their final game of the season.

The three points allowed them to overtake Reed Rangers and win the title by a two-point margin after one of the closest title races in the league’s history.

The outcome was tough on Reed who have now finished runners-up in the last four seasons, but this was the closest they have got to finishing top of the pile at the end of a campaign in which neither side lost a league game and Rangers won the Herts Senior Cup as well.

Evergreen have enjoyed an impressive first season in the top flight with a fourth-placed finish, and despite being without several regular players they did all the could to deny Oakview in the first half.

The deadlock was finally broken 10 minutes before the break when Chris Blunden crossed for Lee Armitt to head his side in front.

The title was all but sealed 15 minutes into the second period when Blunden cut in from the left and unleashed a powerful drive into the net.

Blunden added his second and his team’s third when he finished a one-on-one chance before Armitt completed the scoring with a late solo effort.
