Adalberto Penaranda has been ruled out of the Copa America after sustaining an injury in Venezuela’s warm-up game with Mexico.

The Watford forward came off the bench in the 75th minute of the 3-1 defeat but had to be replaced a little over 10 minutes later.

Venezuela have confirmed the 22-year-old suffered “a rupture of the femoral biceps of the left leg” and he has been replaced in the squad by Yeferson Soteldo.

Penaranda had been hoping to play in his second Copa America after appearing in all three group games in 2016, having been called up after making just two appearances for the Hornets this season.
