Portuguese defender Leandro Paiva is on trial with Watford and has not signed a five year contract, the Watford Observer understands.
Last Tuesday, reports emerged in Portugal that claimed the 17-year-old had joined the club permanently and would link up with the first team.
The report, accompanied by a photograph of Paiva in this season's Watford training kit, suggested the defender had completed a move to Hertfordshire from Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax and that Watford had beaten both Torino and Fiorentina to the player.
However, those reports are now believed to be exaggerated and the youngster is with the club on a trial basis and not currently part of the senior squad.
