Daryl Janmaat thinks Ajax will provide Watford with a tough test this evening in their first game of pre-season.

The Dutch champions won over a lot of neutral fans during last season's Champions League, when they dramatically beaten by Spurs in the semi-final.

Janmaat has played against the Amsterdam side a number of times before during his time in the Netherlands' Eredivisie and knows how good they can be.

"It’s a good team that plays with possession, they like to have the ball and they are going to be a tough opponent,” he told the club website.

"We all saw them in the Champions League.

"They have got some good players. I know a few from the national team like Huntelaar, Blind and Van de Beek. They’ve got good players, young players, and a few new ones so it’s going to be a really tough test for us.”

While this evening's game might not carry the same importance as some of the bigger clashes Janmaat has featured in against Ajax, particularly during his time with Feyenoord, the full-back still sees the match as an exciting one.

It will be the first chance for Javi Gracia to assess his side ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which starts in just over three weeks' time.

"Feyenoord against Ajax is always a special game,” said Janmaat.

"It's the biggest game in Holland and I’ve played in it a few times. This game is obviously different, but it will be nice to play after a few weeks just training as playing is what you do it for.

"It will be good to get some rhythm and everyone is looking forward to the game."
