Former Watford captain Robert Page has been promoted to join Ryan Giggs’ coaching staff for the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

The 44-year-old has been working for the Welsh FA as Under-21 manager, but he will now join Giggs and his assistant Albert Stuivenberg as a coach for the senior side.

Having established himself in the Watford first team under Kenny Jackett, the former Welsh international centre-half was appointed captain by Graham Taylor and went on to lead the Hornets to back-to-back promotions to the Premier League, culminating in the play-off final glory at Wembley against Bolton Wanderers.

Page went on to play for clubs including Sheffield United, Coventry City and Chesterfield, making more than 500 appearances in his career, and has previously managed Port Vale and Northampton Town.

Wales begin their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign against Azerbaijan and Belarus next month.

Paul Bodin has been promoted to take Page’s place as Under-21 boss.
