Watford's Under 23s coach Hayden Mullins felt his side could have beaten Crystal Palace by a greater margin after they won 2-0 away from home on Monday afternoon.

Henry Wise's strike in the first-half, followed by a Sam Dalby penalty in the second, saw the young Hornets return to the top of the Southern Professional Development League.

Following the game the coach told the club website how pleased he was with the win and that he believed his side should have scored more.

"There was a lot of possession for them and it was a different game for us,” he said.

“We spoke about trying to be a lot more solid in our shape, trying to keep our shape and keep them in front of us and press in the right areas. I think they did that today and I think we were unlucky not to win by a bigger margin if I’m honest."

Mullins spoke more about his side's ability to adapt to a different type of game, as they adopted a more counter-attacking style of play against the Eagles.

He also praised midfielder Wise for his goal, following an impressive start to the campaign.

“We had to play differently, and it was a different kind of target for the boys to sit in, be solid and play on the counter-attack,” he said.

“At times you can’t always come and dominate games, there are going to be times when you have to sit in and soak up pressure, and I think they did that well today.

“[Wise] hit it really well, he’s been assisting quite a few people in recent weeks so I’m sure he’s glad he’s popped up with one.

“I’m sure if you ask any of the midfielders, the one thing they would love to add to their game is goals.”
