The mother of soon-to-be Watford player Joao Pedro has revealed that she is "thrilled" her son will be able to fulfil his dream of playing in the "land of the Queen".

Last night the Hornets revealed that their application for a work permit for the striker had been successful and that the player would be joining the club in January.

A statement passed on to the club by the striker's mother thanked Gino Pozzo for the work he had done to bring Pedro to Hertfordshire to help him "achieve his goals".

The statement read: “We were very anxious these past few weeks trying to think about the work permit application.

“But with such good news, we are thrilled. We are grateful to God, to Watford, to Mr Pozzo and Joao Pedro's agent for all their hard work in the application for a work permit.

“It's Joao Pedro's dream to play in the Premier League and it's our dream to see him achieve all his goals.

“We are so happy he will be at Watford in January. Both the reception we received at Watford and the warmth from the fans made us feel at home. It's a dream for Joao Pedro to play in the land of the Queen.”
