Watford Under 23s extended their lead at the top of the Professional Development League South Division to eight points with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Ipswich Town.

Goals from Henry Wise, Joseph Hungbo and Jayden Bennetts maintained the Young Hornets' dominance at the top of the table, as they gave the Tractor Boys little chance.

The win was the Under 23s' eighth in 11 games, and came about under the watchful gaze of first-team assistant coach Dean Austin, who was present to cast his eye over the high-flying youngsters.

Wise opened the scoring during the first-half when he reacted fastest to a fire home a rebound, before Hungbo added his eighth of the season with a stunning long range strike after the break.

Bennetts rounded off the win in style when he cut inside from the left and beat the Ipswich keeper at his near post, to give the lead Under 23 coach Hayden Mullens plenty to feel positive about.

Following the game, Mullins told the club website he was pleased with his side's efforts, but that they had a long way to go before they won anything.

"We haven't won anything yet and we don't really get anything for winning the league," he said.

"But where we are right now is a good reflection of where the boys are at.

"It's all down to hard work. We speak about being a team, working hard as a team and staying as a team. They are also taking on board information we are giving them before and during the game. That's great to see as a coach. They are working really hard and are doing really well."
