Watford Ladies set up a Women’s FA Cup third round tie at home to Plymouth Argyle after overcoming Keynsham Town 3-0 in the second round on Sunday.

It was the second time in three weeks that the Golden Girls had faced Keynsham, but they knew it was unlikely that a repeat of the 7-0 victory from last time out would ensue.

Katie O’Leary, Andrea Carid and Alysha Stojko-Down got the all-important goals in the second half to make it 10 goals in their two recent games against Keynsham.

Watford enjoyed a lot of possession early on, but the hosts did well to hold firm and they probably should have taken the lead when they robbed Watford of possession, but their forwards were off target on a number of occasions.

Helen Ward was also guilty of missing chances at the other end, but she couldn’t apply the right finish after successive through balls from Megan Chandler, Danielle Scanlon and Emma Beckett.

Carid and O’Leary also had efforts from outside the area, but the Keynsham goalkeeper was equal to both of their strikes.

Whatever was said at half-time had the desired effect on the Hornets as they came out for the second period with a renewed drive about the way they went forward and attacked.

The Golden Girls continued to probe and the first goal of the game finally arrived on 63 minutes when Beckett whipped a dangerous ball into the box and O’Leary managed to flick it into the top corner.

Once that one had gone in, Watford barely had to wait another minute for the second to follow, as this time Carid slotted home from 12 yards after some excellent build-up play down the left.

Despite the Hornets now looking comfortable at this stage, Kat Huggins still had to be alert to clear a rare Keynsham effort off the line.

Instead, the third of the day went the way of the visitors. Substitute Stojko-Down was played through by Adekite Fatuga-Dada and she slammed into the roof of the net from 20 yards to cap a comfortable afternoon for Watford.

The third round tie against Plymouth will take place on Sunday, January 5, 2020.
