Shannon Courtenay ended her first year as a professional by maintaining her unbeaten start with a TKO win over Buchra El Quaissi in Matchroom Boxing’s NXTGEN series.

The Spanish bantamweight was dropped by the Watford fighterin the fifth round of the York Hall contest as Courtenay got her second knockout win in five bouts.

The fight formed one of the undercards to Richard Riakporhe’s fight with Jack Massey.

El Quaissi started strongly and forced her opponent back in a lively opening, but accurate punching from Courtenay began to pick the Spaniard off.

A strong left hook left El Quaissi on the floor in the fourth, but the 36-year-old got back to her feet.

The next knockdown proved to be too much though as Courtenay produced another hook which prompted the referee to call a half to the contest in the fifth.

On her Instagram page after the fight, Courtenay said: “Perfect way to finish my first year as a professional. 5-0 undefeated and ready for a huge 2020!

“The support I’ve had since the start of my career has been overwhelming and I can’t thank you all enough.

“Next year is going to be VERY exciting but for now it’s time for me to enjoy Christmas with my loved ones!”
