Northwood have appointed former player Robert Ursell as the club’s new first-team manager following the departure of Jamie Leacock.

Ursell, 37, played 45 times for Woods across two different spells, scoring nine times.

He started his playing career at Harefield United and also enjoyed spells at Carshalton Athletic, Hendon, Walton Casuals, Chertsey Town, Wingate & Finchley and AFC Wimbledon.

Ursell has also earned caps for the England futsal team and has been a professional futsal player in Cyprus.

His appointment comes six days after the club confirmed Leacock’s departure following another poor run of results.

Leacock took over in October 2019 after Scott Dash’s sacking and a brief winning run in November got him off to a good start.

However, results since then failed to impress, with Woods losing 10 of their last 13 Isthmian League South Central Division games, conceding 34 goals.

Ursell’s first game will be tonight’s trip to fellow strugglers Staines Town.
