Captains of both Watford and Watford Ladies Troy Deeney and Helen Ward have been named as patrons of the club's LGBT fan group, Proud Hornets.

At an event held at Watford Museum on Tuesday evening, the group revealed that both players had agreed to support the supporter's group, to mark football vs homophobia month.

Both players told the club website they were pleased to stand alongside the LGBT fan base following the announcement.

"I’m pleased to become a patron for the Proud Hornets and to be an ally for our fans from the LGBT community,” said Deeney. “For me, this shows our club is once again leading the way in its work with equality and diversity and it was an honour to be asked.”

Ward added: “I’m delighted to accept the Proud Hornets’ invitation to become their patron. It’s so important that we continue to stand together as one club and promote a united front against every type of discrimination.”
