Watford were unable to build on their win over Liverpool at Crystal Palace on Saturday, as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

In a scrappy physical contest during which tempers flared on more than one occasion, the Hornets conceded in the first-half and never managed to muster enough to hit back.

Here's how we rated their individual performances:

Ben Foster - 6

Not much he could've done to prevent the goal being scored and was rightly annoyed with his defenders.

Made a couple of smart stops in the second-half.

Kiko Femenia - 6

Was arguably the best of the defenders despite having a busy afternoon against Wilfried Zaha and Patrick Van Aanholt.

Did a good job of limiting chances.

Craig Cathcart - 5

Wasn't quick enough to close down Jordan Ayew for the goal. Looked a bit shaky when defending set pieces.

Christian Kabasele - 6

Threw his head bravely into a challenge with Christian Benteke late on.

No coincidence that Palace found their opening while he was nursing a knock to the face and unable to defend.

Adam Masina - 5

Was also guilty of not closing down Ayew for the goal, but also gave the ball away at the start of the attack.

Struggled with the physicality of the contest.

Etienne Capoue - 5

Failed to control his temper and allowed his frustration to get the better of him.

Couldn't make the impact he usually does.

Will Hughes - 6

Fought with a bit of purpose and also had one or two moments of creativity.

Was regularly out muscled however.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 6.5

Pressed well and was Watford's most direct source of threat, but struggled to create anything decisive in Palace's crowded defence.

Roberto Pereyra - 3

Offered very little to the game and looked disinterested at times.

No surprise to see him substituted. Has to do much better in future.

Ismaila Sarr - 5

Offered the occasional glimpses of what he is capable of, but was swarmed by Palace defenders, who did a good job of marking him out of the game.

Troy Deeney - 5

Had a frustrating day at work and was limited to half chances by the hosts.

SUBS

Danny Welbeck - 5

Didn't offer anything new after coming on.

Ignacio Pussetto - 5

Ran around a lot, but without any real purpose.

Andre Gray - N/A

Joined the game too late to make an impact.
