Watford CEO Scott Duxbury has come out in support of the Premier League's decision to suspend fixtures until at least the weekend of Friday, April 3, following the coronavirus outbreak.

Watford are one of several teams, alongside Leicester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Bournemouth, to have been affected by Covid19 so far, with some clubs confirming cases among their playing and management staff, while others have been tested for the virus, leaving the league with little choice to postpone all games.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was the first Premier League name to be confirmed as testing positive, while Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi has also been self-isolating due to a positive test.

“First and foremost, our concern is for the wellbeing of everybody connected with our club; players, staff and supporters,” said Hornets’ Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury in a statement on the club website.

“Our actions in recent weeks to take extra precautionary steps reflect the fact that this has always been our priority; something our Head Coach Nigel Pearson reiterated fully at this morning’s press conference.”

He added: “We will continue our usual lines of communication with our supporters, providing the most up-to-date information possible.”

In addition to the Premier League, the Champions League and Europa League have both been postponed as well, while a number of leagues across the world have also been temporarily halted.

A meeting at UEFA on Tuesday will discuss the possibility of pushing back this summer's European Championships to next year. Meanwhile the EFL have also agreed to suspend all their fixtures until the same date as the Premier League.

Further the the announcements in the men's game, Watford Ladies also chose to suspend all football activity.

Duxbury said: “The health and wellbeing of everyone associated with the club is of paramount importance, therefore it’s totally correct for the Ladies set-up to adopt a one-club approach.”

As a result, tomorrow's trip to Yeovil Town has been postponed, as has the Under-23's County Cup final.
