Watford are closing in on the signature of French midfielder Pape Gueye from Le Havre, according to reports.

Le 10 Sport in France are today claiming that the 21-year-old is in advanced talks with the Hornets over the move and that an agreement is close.

It is also suggested that Gueye would be loaned out to Udinese for a season should he join, a path many other Watford players have taken due to the Serie A side's links with the Hornets.

Le 10 state that the player's contract is due to expire this summer so he would be available for free.

The defensive midfielder has also reportedly been the subject of interest from Watford's Premier League rivals Arsenal.

He featured for Le Havre 26 times during the current incomplete season, 24 of which were in the starting XI.
