Today marks the tenth anniversary of Troy Deeney signing for Watford from Walsall.

The skipper's future remains uncertain following the Hornets relegation from the Premier League, with Deeney himself admitting he did not know whether or not he had played his last game for the club.

However, he has been a valuable servant throughout the last decade, so much so that the club has made a documentary about his impact since his arrival, which will appear on the Watford YouTube channel from 7pm tonight.

Here the Watford Observer takes a look at some of the highlights of his time at Vicarage Road.

Watford Observer:

August 6, 2010 - Deeney makes his debut against Norwich City just hours after joining.

Speaking after the game, a 3-2 win, he said: "It's been a mad three years, from being at college to playing Championship football. It is something which only dreams are made of.

"I went in to training at Walsall this morning [Friday] and was told at 10 o'clock that the deal had been done so I got in a car and went down to Watford, signed papers, had a medical and went straight across to Norwich.

“I met up with the lads about ten past four, had something to eat and left to come and play."

Deeney opened his account for the Hornets in a league cup clash with Notts County later that month in a 2-1 defeat.

Watford Observer:

The striker went on to score three goals in all competitions in his first season with the Hornets, before adding 32 more over the next two seasons, including his memorable play-off goal against Leicester City on May 12, 2013.

Watford Observer:

The following season after missing out on promotion, Deeney scored 25 in all competitions, including his first hat-trick for the Hornets against Bournemouth on August 10, 2013.

Watford Observer:

Deeney's haul during the 2013/14 campaign earned him player of the season and made him the first Watford player to score 20 goals in consecutive seasons since Cliff Holton and earned him the captain's armband the following season.

Watford Observer:

That season he would lead the Hornets to the Premier League, scoring on the last day of the season away at Brighton to earn them automatic promotion.

After keeping them in the top flight during the 2015/16 season, bagging 15 goals in all competitions, he scored his 100th goal for the Hornets the following campaign in a boxing day match against Crystal Palace.

Watford Observer:

Deeney would continue his potency in front of goal over the next few seasons, particularly from the penalty spot, from which he has scored 31 times for Watford.

One of the most important he would take would be against Wolves in the FA Cup semi-final last season.

Watford Observer:

Deeney's converted spot kick would send the game into extra-time before Gerard Deulofeu's winner took the Hornets to the final.

Watford Observer:

On July 26, 2020 Deeney scored away at Arsenal to take his tally to 133 goals for the club, 124 of which are league goals, making him the Hornets fourth highest all time goalscorer and third highest league goalscorer. He has scored against 47 different clubs.

In his ten years at Vicarage Road, he has made 398 league and cup appearances, equal 11th on Watford's all-time list alongside Ross Jenkins.

Whether or not his goal against the Gunners will be his last for Watford remains to be seen, but it is clear that he has been a massively important player for the club over the last ten years.

Should he depart this summer, his goalscoring and leadership will not be forgotten by the club's fans, and more importantly will be very difficult to replace.
