Watford have rejected a bid from Everton for midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré.
The Watford Observer understands that the Toffees have submitted an opening offer for the 27-year-old Frenchman.
Reports from French media suggest that Doucouré had agreed personal terms with Everton.
However, it is understood that the Hornets have refused an offer from the Goodison Park club.
It has been claimed that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has made Doucouré his priority – and that a second bid for the French player is set to follow.
Watford were relegated to the Championship last month after finishing the last Premier League season 19th.
Last month French publication L'Equipe reported that Dorcoure wants to leave following relegation to the Championship and has asked his agent to line up a new deal for him elsewhere.
The Sky Bet Championship season is set to start on September 12.
