Watford will play Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season friendly at Vicarage Road the weekend before both clubs get their respective seasons underway.

The match will be played on Saturday, September 5 and is set to take place behind closed doors due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

The Hornets will kick off their Championship campaign at home to Middlesbrough the following Saturday, while Spurs are due to entertain Everton in their Premier League opener, also on September 12.

Top-flight honours ended even between the two teams last season; Watford denied a win by a controversial late Dele Alli equaliser in a 1-1 away draw in October, before the two sides fought out a goalless stalemate at Vicarage Road in January.
