Watford and Valencia are in talks over a potential move for Etienne Capoue, although the nature of the deal remains a point of contention for the time being.

The Hornets today confirmed that the French midfielder has asked to leave and that he will be moving on once suitable arrangements have been made.

Watford Observer:

A statement on the club website, that also confirmed Roberto Pereyra would be departing, reads: "Étienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra are not in Head Coach Vladimir Ivić’s first-team squad, given both players have requested a transfer away from the Hornets. The club will confirm their departures officially once moves have been finalised."

Capoue is interested in the move to Valencia that would see him reunited with former Watford head coach Javi Gracia, but the two sides are yet to find a compromise that suits both parties.

The Hornets would prefer for the midfielder be sold outright, but the Spanish side's financial situation means they are more interested in exploring loan options, something Watford are understood to be less keen on, but not completely against.

Reports elsewhere suggest a loan with an option to buy has all-but been agreed, but that is not believed to be the case just yet.

Discussions between the two clubs have been ongoing throughout the summer with both parties willing to get a deal done soon, with a middle ground hoped to be reached in the coming weeks if not days.
