Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann is expected to make his senior international debut with Austria next week in their World Cup qualifier against Scotland.

The 26-year-old was forced to make the step up to the number one spot after Ben Foster broke his fingers earlier this season and his performances have caught the eye of Austria manager, Franco Foda.

Bachmann learnt of his inclusion in the squad prior to the 4-1 win over Rotherham United on Tuesday night, where his chances of getting some game time will have only increased thanks to an impressive penalty save in the second half.

Watford Observer:

Sources close to the goalkeeper have said he is likely to be involved in the game at Hampden Park on Thursday, March 25, but he could also be used in subsequent games against the Faroe Islands and Denmark.

The Austrian has not been included in an international squad since October 2017 when he was on the bench for World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Moldova.

He is still yet to make an international appearance.

Also hoping to be involved in next week's international matches is defender Christian Kabasele, who will find out on Friday if he has been included in Belgium's 23-man squad after learning of his inclusion in Roberto Martinez's provisional list of 30 players.

Elsewhere, Ken Sema has been called up for international duty with Sweden and Ben Wilmot has made the England Under-21 squad for their upcoming Euro Championship group stage matches.
