Ben Foster has reflected on Watford's 8-0 humbling at the hands of Manchester City during last season's Premier League relegation.

The goalkeeper was beaten five times in the first half before City added three more in the second in what was the Hornets' heaviest Premier League defeat.

Speaking to TalkSport about his record against the Citizens, Foster revealed that he had conceded 58 times in 20 matches, losing 17 times.

Eight of those goals came in that painful trip to the Etihad last season, during which Foster said his defenders had "completely gone" after 18 minutes.

“I think Man City for me, as a goalkeeper, were always the danger team,” Said the goalkeeper. “It’s no disrespect to Liverpool as when they were in their pomp they were incredible, but Man City as a team were the only team I felt could expose you at any moment.

“The 8-0 for example, we were five down after 18 minutes. It was outrageous.

“I remember trying to talk to my defenders and saying ‘just calm it down’ and it was like they’d glazed over, they’d completely gone.

“It wasn’t an enjoyable experience.

“Man City in full flow were probably one of the best Premier League teams we’ve seen, the modern-era Man City.

“Man United back in the day were relentless, they were like Liverpool last season. Would win games 1-0, 2-1 and just keep churning out results.

“You always knew if you weren’t on your game, they could score five or six past you pretty easy.”
