Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has played down reports linking him with a move to Manchester City.

Both the Mail and the Sun had linked the 38-year-old with a move to the Champions ahead of next season, with Scott Carson's loan coming to an end this summer.

However, in an interview for the Jude's Journey YouTube channel, the shot-stopper said he had heard nothing about it.

"It's the way that paper talk goes, you'll always get linked with other teams and other other things will come up but at the end of the day it's all just paper talk," said Foster.

"I've never heard a single thing about this and that's what these media outlets need to do. They need to fill some column inches so they put two and two together and most of the time come up with six or seven."

Foster compared the team now to the side he joined from West Bromwich Albion at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign and believes that, though the players are much younger, there is still plenty of talent among the squad to create problems for teams next season.

"I remember signing from West Brom and thinking, 'wow this is a very technically gifted team,'" he said. "We had the likes of Geri Deulofeu, we had Maxi Pereyra, Etienne Capoue, a core of a very technically gifted players and they are Premier League players.

"At the minute, we've had to go through a bit of a transition, it's always what happens when teams get relegated. Other players want to move on to bigger and better things and some have got some really nice moves and I'm so happy for them, they're great players. But at the minute, we've got a much younger team.

"I think our team ethic and our outlook on games at the minute is to basically outwork any opposition that we have and we're very blessed that we've got somebody like Ismaila Sarr on the right wing. He's an incredible talent and Ken Sema on the left hand side again, incredible talent, full of pace. It's a different one for the team, but that's not to say it's any any better or any worse either."
