Watford comfortably beat Doncaster Rovers 4-0 in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly at St. George’s Park yesterday.

Goals from Peter Etebo, Troy Deeney and Dan Gosling had the Hornets in a commanding position before the break and Ashley Fletcher added a fourth from the spot in the second half.

The game was the penultimate one of pre-season prior to this weekend's trip to Premier League opponents Crystal Palace.

Encouragingly for Watford, Kiko Femenia and Francisco Sierralta were both involved, getting their first minutes of pre-season.

The Spanish full-back is hoping to be available for next weekend's match against Aston Villa, while the Chilean has been unused since returning from the Copa America.

Ben Foster played the full 90 minutes, with Daniel Bachmann still being used sparingly after his return from Euro 2020.

Tom Dele-Bashiru also got some more minutes under his belt following his return to fitness.

There was however no place for Domingos Quina, who only returned to full training this week after a thigh problem.

Will Hughes continues to be frozen out as he seeks an exit from the club, having rejected the offer of a new contract.

Midfielder Juraj Kucka is close to signing from Parma to provide backup in that position and will undergo a medical before the end of the week.
