Watford have sacked head coach Xisco Munoz after yesterday's dismal 1-0 defeat to Leeds United.

The club confirmed his departure this morning, citing a "negative trend" in recent performances and a lack of "team cohesion" as their reasons.

A statement on the website reads: "The Board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving.

"The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season's promotion and wish him well for his future career in football.

"No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new Head Coach."

After taking over midway through last season, Munoz guided Watford back to the Premier League, with a run of 14 wins from the last 18 games of the season.

Things started brightly in the Premier League as well, with a thrilling 3-2 win over Aston Villa on the opening day.

However, concerning performances against Brighton, Wolves, Newcastle and Leeds were enough for the board to make a decision on his future and bring his time at the club to an end.

They currently sit 14th in the Premier League, with seven points from seven matches.

Club sources have told the Watford Observer that a replacement has already been decided upon and an announcement will be made "soon".
