Xisco Munoz has admitted he was not expecting his sacking from Watford and disputes the club's claim that performances indicated a "negative trend".

Speaking to Estadio Deportivo, the former head coach, who was sacked after defeat at Leeds United at the weekend, said that he thought he was doing a good job, but that in the end he had to accept his fate.

"It was a surprise," he said.

"We came from winning, drawing and then losing against Leeds. It wasn't like we had five or six weeks without winning, or that the team is a disaster and they put four past us. I did not expect it.

"I have a very good relationship with them [the owners]. There are things that you cannot debate. 'We are going to go in a negative trend.' I had to accept it and I accepted it."

Regardless of how it ended, Munoz is pleased to have been a part of the club and thanked those who worked alongside him to help him get the club back to the Premier League.

For now, he is focused on finding another "adventure".

"I have really enjoyed the journey, I have given the best of myself, I think I have made those who were by my side enjoy it," he said.

"At work, that is often the most important thing and I have learned a lot. Now, it's time to find another adventure and keep adding new experiences to life.

"My idea is to keep improving my English, keep watching football, this is my passion. Move around all the places that I can here in England and enjoy these moments. I am going to go travelling to Spain also to watch football there and I also want to visit Italy. I want to see different ways of training, of transmitting football and to keep learning."

Finally, the Spaniard wished his replacement Claudio Ranieri well in the role and said he hopes the club can achieve their goals this season.

"I'm not surprised because things are usually done like this with coaches," he said.

"I wish them all the best, it is not a question of Xisco or Claudio Ranieri being there now, I want them to win and achieve their goals. I have not been selfish at any time and I will not be now. I wish Claudio all the luck."
