Former Watford head coach Xisco Munoz has wished his replacement Claudio Ranieri well, after it was announced the Italian would be taking over his position.

The Hornets' boss was sacked on Sunday after defeat at Leeds United the day before.

Club chiefs had already lined up Ranieri as a replacement and his arrival was confirmed the following day.

In response to the club's official announcement of the Tinkerman's arrival on Twitter, Munoz responded by wishing his replacement good luck.

"Enjoy it as I have enjoyed it," wrote Munoz.

"@WatfordFC is special. Good luck Claudio. Go for it !!!"

Munoz and Ranieri know one another after Xisco was part of the Valencia squad that the now 69-year-old guided to a UEFA Super Cup in 2004.

It is not Munoz's only public declaration of good will towards Ranieri.

In an interview with Estadio Deportivo, he said: "I want them to win and achieve their goals. I have not been selfish at any time and I will not be now. I wish Claudio all the luck."
