Watford owner Gino Pozzo contacted Claudio Ranieri immediately after the defeat to Leeds United, the head coach has revealed.
Xisco Munoz's fate was sealed on the final whistle of the match at Elland Road, with the Hornets losing 1-0 in abject fashion.
The Italian was at London Colney 48 hours later and has since told Radio Anch'io Sport on Radio Rai that it did not take long for him to agree to the job.
“Immediately after Watford's last defeat, Pozzo called me asking about my availability,” said Ranieri.
“We reached an agreement and I’m very happy to return to the Premier League. I like my work and I go where there’s a good project.”
Asked if he was a defensive-minded coach, the Tinkerman said he was much more and that bringing the best out of players was his greatest asset.
“I adapt to everything," he continued.
"I’ve been training for 35 years and a lot depends on what group I have available. My greatest gift is to make my teams perform at their best.”
