More than £11,000 has been raised at a fundraising event at Vicarage Road Stadium.

The event saw people of all ages take on the steps at Watford’s home stadium by going up and down them multiple times.

Sponsored by accountancy firm Mercer & Hole, the event raised a total of £11,127 for Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust.

Watford MP Dean Russell and Watford FC legend Luther Blissett were on hand to offer words of advice and good luck to those taking part, whilst fellow former Hornet Steve Palmer was joined by Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor in completing the route alongside event attendees.

Another person taking part was the trust's community director at the trust, Rob Smith.

He said: “It has been a really positive event and it’s great to hear of the fantastic amount of money that has been raised for us to continue making a positive difference in our communities.

“I’d like to thank each and every one of the people that have been involved, they should all be proud of their achievements, both on event day and with the funds raised.

“I’d also like to thank Dean, Peter, Steve and Luther for coming along and of course, a special thanks must go to our volunteers and our brilliant event sponsors Mercer & Hole, without them, this simply couldn’t have happened.”

As well as sponsoring the event, Mercer & Hole entered two teams, which included Jo Upshall, Audit and Business Advisory Partner at Mercer & Hole.

Jo said: “I am proud Mercer & Hole sponsored the Step Up Challenge, it is important for us to give back to the community in which we live and work in.

“It was fantastic to see so many people turn up and step up to fundraise for Watford FC Community Trust, I really felt a sense of community spirit today. Myself and our team thoroughly enjoyed today. We had two teams competing against each other which gave us a competitive edge to keep running.”

Inflatable games and refreshments courtesy of registered charity The Blue Tangerine Café, helped make for a fun-filled family event.
