Watford FC have hinted that Sir Elton John could be returning for a concert at Vicarage Road next year.

A video shared by the club this morning shows drone footage of the stadium with Sir Elton's song The Bitch is Back playing over the top, with "2022" shown on the electronic screens inside the ground.

The post was accompanied by the #EltonFarewellTour hashtag.

The club's honourary life president has played at the Vic on more than one occasion before, including in 1974, 2005 and 2010.

He will be embarking on a worldwide "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour throughout next year, and has already confirmed dates at other stadiums including Carrow Road, Anfield, the Stadium of Light, Ashton Gate and the Swansea City stadium.

He will also be performing at the O2 in Greenwich for nine separate nights in 2023.

At the end of last season, the singer did an interview for Watford FC in which he spoke of his love for the club he used to own.

"It's in my heart, my soul, you can't get rid of it. My passion for this club has never died and I'm so proud of this club," said Sir Elton.

"When I first came in here as vice president, and we had the two stands and the dog track...to see us now is amazing. We took it on an amazing journey, we've never gone down from the Championship, we've always been in the Premier League or the Championship and I'm so proud of that, considering where we came from, what this club was, what it means to the community, how we've done that, and that was Graham [Taylor]'s passion."
