Claudio Ranieri believes Watford's performances are getting better, even if they do not always achieve the right results.

A 4-1 win over Manchester United showed a big step in the right direction, but defeat at the hands of Leicester at the weekend suggests improvements are still needed.

However, the Italian said, if his players can keep playing as they are, consistency will soon be achieved.

“The performances are very close because against Arsenal, Manchester United and Leicester City there was a very good consistency, but the results? No," said Ranieri.

"Only in this way do we want to continue to play because we want to improve. I want to have consistency and I’m confident because the players are following me 100 per cent and we try to help each other to make a very good squad."

One clear sign of improvement would be a clean sheet, which Watford are yet to achieve so far this season.

The head coach believes that will come once his players fully understand what he wants from them.

"We must improve our focus, our attention, our tactical movement," he said. "When everybody understands very well all the movement and stays focused in what will happen, we will have a clean sheet for us."
