Watford have confirmed the signing of Samuel Kalu from Bordeaux for a fee understood to be close to £3million.

The Nigerian has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Vicarage Road.

He becomes the fourth new arrival of the January transfer window after Hassane Kamara, Samir and Edo Kayembe.

The winger passed a medical at London Colney last week before putting pen to paper on the contract.

Attack was not initially seen as an area Watford were looking to bolster this window, but the opportunity to move and sign someone they have been tracking for some time, for what they consider to be a good price, changed their minds, especially after they managed to identify and secure their defensive targets early on.

The 24-year-old shares an agent with current on-loan Watford player Peter Etebo.

He has scored ten goals and provided eight assists from 86 appearances for Bordeaux and has also represented both KAA Gent and AS Trencin.

He will wear the number 28 at Watford.
